Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring?

I’ll provide all the fishing gear and tackle. Bring at least a small ice chest, even if you prefer to leave it in your vehicle. You’ll need something to drink and eat. Whatever type of sunscreen you like. And yes, you’ll need a fishing license.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yep! If you’re only planning to fish a couple days this year, short term licenses are available. You can get a Texas saltwater fishing license online through TX Parks and Wildlife. They also sell licenses at Ace Hardware, HEB, Tackle Town, Stripes, and Walmart. Check https://tpwd.texas.gov/ for details.

Where should I stay in Rockport?

There are plenty of options for any budget, and many of the hotels were renovated and improved after 2017’s Hurricane Harvey. The Lighthouse Inn has great views and amenities. The new Fairfield Marriot is popular, though budget-conscious anglers may be satisfied with the no-frills package at the Motel 6. You’ll also want to check out home rentals through VRBO and Miss Kitty’s at https://www.rockporthomerentals.com/

How long is a day of guided fishing?

Depending on the time of year, we can spend about six hours on the water, starting at dawn. In the spring and fall, when it doesn’t get quite so hot quite so fast, we’re able to spend a bit more time on the water.

What happens with the fish I catch?

Kevin will clean and package your catch. You’ll want to bring at least a small ice chest in your vehicle. If you have a larger group, you may want to bring a full-sized ice chest along on the boat. If you have a rental property in Rockport, you may choose to cook the fish yourself, or you can take your catch to a local restaurant.

What restaurants will cook my fish?

With Crab-N Restaurant, the “bring your own fish” option starts at $15. Paradise Key will also cook your fish for $13.99 per person. If you have any other tips, let me know.

Where can I get my own bait or gear?

I’ll provide all the tackle and fishing-related supplies for guided trips. If you’re looking to do some fishing on your own, I get bait at Capt. Cady’s Bait House. There are several options, including Sea Gun Bait and Tackle Town.

Where are the best public access Texas saltwater fishing?

There used to be some great public piers in the Rockport area, and wade fishers always have plenty of options. For shoreline and pier fishing, check out the Goose Island State Park. Last I heard, they were still rebuilding from the hurricane, but that fishing pier will be a great option whenever it’s open.
